Reading Response Day 1

#1 The setting changed alot for the few pages we read. At the begining of the book in Allie's dream, she was trapped in a burning building. then she was in her own home, awake heading to her little brothers bed. After this she was on her way to school. Then it changed to being in her teachers classroom. Also, it then changed to being in the cafeteria. Then, at the end of the pages we read, she was walking home with her friend, Dub. The setting that I can relate to is heading into her brothers bed. I don't have a little brother, but when I was little I crawled into my big brothers bed because I was scared of storms. I have also crawled into my parents bed, because of storms, bad dreams, and wierd noises outside. I also related to another setting. Its the one was walking home with her friend. Only I was getting off the bus with a friend, not walking home all the way from school to my house. Another is when she is in her teachers classroom. Anyone would be able to relate to this setting. They all have a teacher. Lastly I can relate to eating lunch with my friends in the cafeteria. I never got stared at by anyone, though. I can't relate to the mean lunch lady in the book, because I haven't had a mean one.

#2 The setting changed alot in the 18 pages we read. Like when Allie was walking to school and a scary dream was in her head. Another time it changed is when Allie and her friends were eating lunch in the cafeteria. Another example is when all the kids were looking at Allie because she thought of interviewing Mrs. Hobbs the mean lunch lady. I can see all those settings in my mind while reading the book. Then, the time I related to was in the morning when Allie was in school and goes to lunch time. I can relate to when she crawled into her younger brothers bed but i crawled into my moms and dads bed because i had a scary dream like hers. Also i can relate to eating lunch with my friends but i have never really gotten stared at by everyone in the lunch room. I never had a mean lunch lady.

Extra Comments: Why would they have a old lunch lady? I don't know? Its confusing because she should be retired. Maybe she needs money. Thats a good idea. Another thing is that why do you think Karen is so mean to Allie? I don't know, she is just a really mean person probably. The thing is, why does Allie hang out with her then? I don't know maybe she is jealous of Allie. That could be. Do you have any questions/comments? Oh, ya. Did you figure out why they would have elders day? No not really. I have know idea why the have elders day. Callie, I was confused when Mrs. Hobbs went from standing there, to being gone.

Mrs. Rowe: I can relate to a mean lunch lady. One time when I was in 5th grade, this crabby lunch lady would always give my friends more tator-tots than me. I would ask her for more and she would grumble back, "Nope, sorry, one scoop for each kid!" That horrible response would be followed with a scary laugh. ** Both of you girls should be really proud of your work on this wiki page. You've gone above and beyond, keep it up!

Reading Response Day 3

#1 My two favorite people are Mrs. Hobbs and Allie. I like Mrs. Hobbs because she is kinda mysterious, and we don't know much about her. I also like her because she got all freaked out when Allie asked her about the fire. See, Allie has this ghost in her mind, and the ghost said to ask Mrs. Hobbs about the fire. There was a stack of paper on the table, and Mrs. Hobbs set it on fire. I don't know how she did it, but it made me and Callie wonder what made her so cold. I like Allie too, because she seems very smart, because two ghosts have contacted her, and Mr. Henry, her teacher, trusted her to watch his dog Hoover, while hes gone. Another reason is because she was brave enough to ask Mrs. Hobbs about the interview. Now, onto my least favorite people. I don't like Karen and Dub. I don't like Karen because she is so mean. Shes always saying rude comments under her breath so Mr. Henry doesn't hear her. She doubted that Allie would actually interview Mrs. Hobbs. Now for my reasoning for Dub. He is hardly ever spoken of, and on the back cover it says he end up hating Allie. Its strange because it seems that Allie the kind of person who people would automatically like. I don't like or dislike Mr. Henry because I don't know anything about him except that he is a teacher and has a dog named Hoover.

#2 My favortite out characters were Mrs. Hobbs and Allie. I liked Mrs.Hobbs because she is intersting and mysteious, we also didn't know much about her because she doesn't talk much. Also because she freaked out when Allie asked her a question about the fire that a ghost told her about. I also like Allie because she is really smart and was brave enoough to interveiw Mrs.Hobbs the lunch lady. I liked her also becasue she is not mean like karen and doesn't dought people eaither. Now i will tell you about my least favorite people. My least favorite is Karen and Dub. I hate Karen because she is so stubbern and thinks she is all that. Also becasue she says mean stuff about people under her breath so Mr.Henry doesn't hear it and she won't get in trouble. Also because she trys to be the best at every thing she does like when she has to have her lip gloss and nail polish. And now we go on why i don't like Dub. I don't like Dub because we don't know much about him and he is barley mentioned in the story. And becasue he ends up hating her. I feel like Allie would be the kind of person you would like right away. I don't like or dislike Mr. Henry because i don't really know him exept that he is a teacher and has a dog named Hoover.

Extra Comments: E: Did you get as freaked as I did when Mrs. Hobbs lit the papers on fire? (write your initial before your response) C: yeah because i don't know how she acully start the fire with out matches or any thing. how do you think mrs.hobbs started the fire? E: I either think she used her eyes, or somehow used her hands to do it. I wonder how she actually did it. I think she did the other mysterious fire we don't know about yet. I bet the ghost is her old husband or something and she got really mad at him and killed him by starting the fire. I think she got all mad when Allie asked about family and just blew up when she asked about the fire.C: I agree with all that you said. But how would she use her eys to start the fire, does she have powers or something. E: It said in the book she had a red rimmed eye. I don't know what that means but I think thats how it happened.

Reading Response Day 5

#1 My book, The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs is about a girl who encounters a ghost. The ghost contacts her in her head and she can see his image. At her school they are doing something called Elders day. She was in the cafeteria, and suddenly blurted out without knowing it that she would interview Mrs. Hobbs, the mean lunch lady. Like 10 minutes before she was going to the interview, her ghost, John Walker told her to ask about the fire. In the interview she asked about family. That didn't get a response, so she was starting to get up, and again blurted out something she didn't mean to "Tell me about the fire" Allie had said. Mrs. Hobbs got so mad, that she started a fire with the papers on the table. I think she lit the papers with her eyes. Then Allie bolted out of the building. After this, she went home and decided to go to the library the next day to see if there was more info on Hobbs. She had extra time before the library opened, so she went to see Mrs. Hobbs house. Part of the house was neatly kept, but the other side was really beaten up. She got freaked out and went back to the library. It was open, so she went in. She asked the librarian to help her find films with the name Hobbs. She found some and put them under the micro film. Allie found an article about her wedding, and then one about her first child. About a month later, they had a fire at there house. Her husband and infant died in the fire. Also, there guest, John Walker died also. After Allie had read this, the page suddenly started to dissolve. This made a bunch of smoke and the fire alarm went off. "For the second time in two days, Allie found herself evauating a smoky building with the sound of fire alarms wailing in her ears." The book had read. One of the fireman thought she had started the fire, and followed her to her house to interview her dad about any suspisious behaivior with fire or matches. When Allie got home, her little brother was freaked out. Mrs. Hobbs had come to the house and had a note. Her brother told her she lied and Mrs. Hobbs had come to there house and he thought she called her, only, she hadn't!!! In her head, she was going, why was she here??? She didn't know about the note yet. Now how the note went. It said, "Be careful. You're playing with fire." And this is all I have read about so far in The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs!!!

#2 My book is about a girl named Allie who has ghost coming to her trying to get how they were acully murdered. Her school is doing Elders day and she wanted to interveiw Mrs. Hobbs the mean lunch lady. Right before she was going to interview Mrs. Hobbs a ghost named John Walker said to ask her about the fire. While she was interviewing Mrs. Hobbs she was really scared. When she started to run out of things to ask she asked about the fire. Mrs. Hobbs got reallyl mad and lit up her notebook some her on fire with out any matches. After that she went home and she found Mrs. Hobbs personal informatinon. After taht night she went to go find more information at the libray about the fire. The libray didn't open intill 9:00 and it was 8:15. She went to go see Mrs. Hobbs house ans part of it was really nice and the other side was all beaten up. When she came back to the libray she found articles under Hobbs and she found that Mrs. Hobbs had a husband and one child. The husband and child were killed in the fire. She had to use a micro film to read them. The micro film started to melt and the fire alarm went off. BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. She ran outside and the fireman thought Allie started the fire becasue she was at the fire in the school to. She denied every thing and they had to go to her house and talk with her dad if she every liked fires and ever played with matches. Her dad said no so she was off the hook. When her little brother Mikey was mean to her in the begaing of my reading time today and she lied and said Mrs. Hobbs were going to come to her house. Little Mikey came up to her and he said that Mrs. Hobbs did come to her house when she didn't even call her to come. That is all of the more importent stuff that I have red in my book so far!

Extra Comments:C:I wounder what Mikey did when the snapping turtle came to Allies house. E: I wondered that too. He probably did something like either freeze, or run for his life screaming and bawling.
Mrs. Rowe: Emilie, fantastic summary. I have never read this book before, but I feel like I know exactly what's going on because of the effort and detail you put into your response! Great work :)
Reading Response Day 7

#1 A text-to-world is how we do fire drills and have to line up in single file lines, and get outside as fast as possible and still be quiet. I can relate a text-to-book because in The Haunting of Hillside School. It reminds me of this book because they let there brother go ahead, and he wouldn't respond, because he had fallen into a hole. A text-to-self is when I was playing hide and go seek with my friends, I was looking for them, and I got creeped out because I was all alone (or felt like I was) and started to get freaked. This is like the part of the book where Allie is going to Mr.Henrys house to take care of Hoover, and Hoover is hiding from Allie and she has to look around the house alone. My last connection is a text-to-world. It is when Mikey runs away, Allie goes surching for him. The thing in real life is when Stafanies sister, Sarah, ran away they went looking around for her and aventually found her. The book The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs is really good so far!!!

#2 It reminds me of when we have our fire drills, when the alarm goes off we have to get in a line and get out side as quikly as you can in a single file line and also be quiet. Another way it reminds me of is in the libray, i go to the libray some times to get information about stuff but i don't use a microfilm. Some other ways i relate in the book is becasue she has a little brother and i have little sister about his age. another way i relate to it is that one time my little sister Riley got out of the house and we didn't know were she wen,t so we had to run around the house and finally we found her like when Mikey is lost and she couldn't find him at all. I can relate to it when they are at the lunch table and she sits with her friends like i do at lunch! I don't have any more things in my book The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs that i can relater to at all. So far it is a really good book on my opion!!!!!!

Extra Comments: C: its so scarry that mrs. hobbs might of tooken mikey and allie cant find him. I wounder what her parents with think? E: I think he just wanted something to do. I don't think she could be that cruel. I am glad cheif is ok though.

Reading Response Day 9

#1 The turning point was actually what me and Callie had talked about when we got together. The turning point was when Allie figured out that John Walker the ghost, was trying to get her to suspect Mrs. Hobbs, and help him get the revenge he came into the world for. John made Allie gain his trust, so she would think Mrs. Hobbs was the one who "ruined his life." Actually, he was the one who set the fire at the Hobbs house. He did this because he was so filled with anger that she (as in Mrs. Hobbs) had broken off there engagment to marry Mr. Hobbs. It turned out, that the child Mrs. Hobbs had had, was actually John Walkers kid, not Mr. Hobbs. Now, back to how John was figured out. Allie finally got Dub as a friend again, so she asked him to go to the library (it was to dangurous for her to) to look up some information on John Walker. When Dub got back, he had some articles. He showed them to Allie, and heres what they had said. John Walker had burned down a bank, so he could get the money. Then, soon after that, got engaged to Mrs. Hobbs. Then, had his engagment broken off, and thats when he started the Hobbs fire wich, also killed himself in. He did this so he could get the revenge on Mrs. Hobbs, and so he wouldn't be suspected. Then Mrs. Hobbs was suspected because she was the only one who survived the fire. The turning point summed up, is that John Walker, was the real person who killed the child and husband. (also himself)

#2 In my book the turning point was what me and Emilie thought would happen because in some books they lead you on to one person then it changes and it is really some one else! The turning part of my story is when Allie figures out it was the ghost who has been nice to her all this time. the ghost is John Walker!!!! They found it out when was on the computer looking up ghost cites, she found that if a spirit is asking you to do something it is really trying to tell you to tell the world how the person ghost really died. Intil that happens the ghost never rests.Than Allie asked Dub to try to go to the library and look up stories under Walker. When Dub came to her house to tell her the info. he got he said that where John worked the building got burned down and he was the only suspect so he must of burned it down. Then Allie thought he doses't want to rest in peace, he likes doing stuff to other peoples lives in the real world. Some how they have to do something to the ghost John Walker with some sort of machenere to make him rest. The big turning point in my story is that John Walker the ghost was the real murderer. That is the turning point in my book The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs!!!!

Extra Comments: C: this book is really good so far i want to keep reading it and no stops!!!!! E: Did we finish the book on Friday? I wasn't there. Also, I loved, The Ghost and Mrs. Hobbs.
Mrs. Staus: You ladies both did an amazing job with your entries! I am truly impressed by all of your hard work!
